Intellectual Property Specialist_m/f/d Official title: Commercial Specialist Who We Are The U.S. Mission in Germany is one of the largest U.S. Diplomatic Missions in the world, due in large to its vital geographical situation, its political, and commercial importance in Europe. The U.S. Mission comprises the Embassy in Berlin and five consulates in Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, and Leipzig and provides a wide array of services and support as well as playing a vital role in German American relations. The U.S. Embassy Berlin is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Intellectual Property Specialist_m/f/d . Your Tasks As a member of the Foreign Commercial Service, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) you are a lead advisor on all aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for the institutions of the European Union and its Member States, with emphasis on developments mainly in Germany but also following developments in the UK, the EFTA countries, and the European Patent Office. You participate in the formulation of action plans and strategic initiatives, identify issues, determine solutions to improve IPR regimes. You monitor, analyze, and provide expert-level reporting on legislative and policy developments as well as judicial and administrative decisions. You conduct independent research on complex legal issues, prepare briefing materials for U.S. officials and assist with IPR programming and advocacy in the region including trade agreement negotiations. You develop and maintain contacts with senior officials and identify areas of cooperation. You develop programs, trainings and conferences and deliver presentations and speeches. You work under the supervision of the USPTO Regional Intellectual Property Attaché at the U.S. Mission to the EU in Brussels. Your Profile You have a university degree in law resulting in a juris doctorate (JD) from the U.S. or a foreign equivalent (e.g., Bachelor in Law / Law Degree), and other formalities like a bar examination that allows you to practice law in its local jurisdiction. You have experience in European Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Business, Government, or NGO in the fields of intellectual property, as well as program management. You have fluent English and German language skills.
